The Wait...

The Wait...

It was a lazy Sunday morning. Sipping on her favourite chocolate milk, Thuriha was enjoying the rhythm of the raindrops while her thoughts slowly took her down memory lane, back to a time when life was really being tough on her.

Thuriha was an attractive young girl who lived life on her own terms and conditions. She always listened to the opinions and suggestions of others, but ended up making her own decisions. She took life as a beautiful poem and enjoyed every paragraph of it. She was a perfectionist with a passion to top in anything and everything she did. This attitude rewarded her with plenty of medals, both academic and cultural.

It was an unfortunate year for the IT industry as a whole. Many top organizations were facing the recession, and the campus recruitment drives in colleges didn't happen as planned. Though she got upset, she had full confidence in herself and shrugged off the unfortunate turn of events. Once she graduated with flying colours, life decided to play a small game with her.

A few months after graduation, when Thuriha was starting to feel tired of her attempts to land a good job, the first strike of reality hit her. Her friends, who were average at academics and communication, started landing good positions, while Thuriha, who had helped them write their CVs and prepare for interviews, still found it tough to get an offer. With more vigour, she started applying for job openings and attended every interview that came her way without complaint.

Slowly, she started to feel depressed, as she wasn't getting selected in any of the interviews. She always put the blame on her luck, feeling that it was only bad luck keeping her from getting placed, despite her good performances and excellent academic record. One day, her father noticed her sitting alone in the dark room with a sulking face. He said it had been a tough day for him too, and asked her to come along for a long drive. Thuriha needed it just as much, so she agreed without a second thought.

They set off from home and took the longest route to reach the beach. Her dad stopped the car and asked her to walk with him for a bit. She got down and made her way towards the crashing waves, her father by her side. They sat for a few minutes, after which Thuriha went to let the waves wash over her feet. She felt so refreshed, and it struck her that it had been a long time since she'd been out for a drive with her dad.

After the beach, they went to her favourite ice cream parlour and ordered her all-time favourite: Belgian chocolate ice cream with caramel syrup. Slowly, her dad got a conversation going, and she opened her heart out. After listening closely to everything Thuriha had to say, her father told her a few simple words: "Put in your best effort without expecting any results. The effort will never go to waste, and the right thing will happen at the right time."

Thuriha took her dad's words to heart. She gave her full effort, applied to jobs, attended interviews, and kept herself updated on what was happening in her field. Whenever a rejection mail landed in her inbox, she took it as a step towards a promising career and worked even harder.

Finally, one evening, the much awaited mail reached her inbox: "JOB OFFER LETTER." All her hard work and months of struggle had finally paid off. She happily accepted the offer and started her job with enthusiasm and passion. Having earned it through a real struggle, she understood its value and went on to shine in her project.

Though Thuriha got the job later than her friends, she loved it and was completely satisfied with what she was doing. She understood that the wait had made her lucky. It had landed her the right job at the right time.

Now, when people question her about taking her time with marriage, she knows exactly how to handle the wait. She had already mastered the art of waiting.
